Celebration on Sunday, March 15, 2009 at Word of Outreach Christian Center

When Bishop Smith's brother (Evangelist Melvin L. Smith, Sr), was martyred for the gospel in October 1987, Apostle Victor came to Little Rock and refreshed our spirits and souls. He blessed the saints at Word of Outreach Christian Center, while he ministered to us in our home and with our church family.

In June of 2001 when I was having major surgery, Archbishop Victor Onuigbo came to our home to be with me.  He said that the Lord had sent him to pray for me and he was not to leave until "the girl" was up on her feet again.  He came to the hospital to see me and presented me with a yellow rose, prayed for me and stayed in our home until I was back home and up walking.

For those things and much more, we are forever grateful to the Lord for allowing Bishop Onuigbo into our lives.  We loved him dearly and will miss him sorely. Yet, we will rejoice, having this confidence that he, his lovely wife and precious daughter are with the Lord according to St. Paul's teaching in 2 Corinthian 5:8: "We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord".

We join the many saints all over the world who loved him, his family and ministry in the Celebration of a Life lived for the glory of God.

Archbishop Victor Onuigbo

Enugu — The death of the Arch Bishop of Victory Cathedral, a booming Pentecostal church with headquarters in Enugu, Prof Victor Onuigbo and his wife, Rev. Mrs Florence Onuigbo, in a ghastly motor accident has thrown members into a state of confusion and mourning.

Onuigbo, a flamboyant and devout bishop, died recently at Oji River, Enugu- Onitsha Expressway as he was returning from a traditional wedding. It was gathered that another vehicle had run into the car which he was driving with his wife causing fatal injuries to both.Although, they were rushed to a hospital, they died some hours later. It was gathered that three occupants of the other vehicle also lost their lives in the accident. Our correspondent, who visited the church yesterday noticed that many prominent members, who were part of the meeting of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) were yet to recover from the shock of the bad news. But Pastor of the church, Engr. C.S.O Nwufo, apparently to console members, told newsmen that the church does not mourn since the belief is that it is Christ that called him.Nwufo said as far as the church is concerned, Onuigbo lives on, adding that it is only his flesh that has been taken by the accident." The church is standing on what the Bible says, and believes that Onuigbo lives. He is with Christ, and what we miss is his physical presence."We hope to join him with Christ when we have served our term on earth", he said. The Pastor disclosed that Onuigbo will be buried in March, this year, adding the Bishops of the PFN, the Church and his family have all been involved in his funeral arrangement. Over 10 Bishops from different churches attended a meeting yesterday where burial arrangements were being planned.  It was gathered that about 50 other Bishops had earlier paid a condolence visit to condole members of the Church, including members of the family of the late Bishop.Onuigbo until his death was founder and President International Communion of Pentecostal Churches and Ministries (ICPCM), President, Victory International Bible College, Director, Christian Association of Nigeria (ICAN), South East, President Hour of Hope TV Ministry.Apart from his normal ministry, he was known to have committed part of his life to charity to the oppressed, downtrodden and the poor. Pastor Nwufo said, while the late Bishop lived, his ministry touched and will continue to touch very positively millions of people in Nigeria and USA, United Kingdom, India, Cameroun, Kenya and many parts of the world.

~Those Who Died in Christ

1TH 4:13  But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope.
14  For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.
15  For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep.
16  For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:
17  Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.
18  Wherefore comfort one another with these words.

Thanks for your expression of love towards Bishop's family!

A loving and faithful wife, CALLED by His Side - Until Death Parted them!
